Using the Furby App

Update: I’ve created a new post regarding the Furby Apps, I’m closing the comments on this article so please post App related comments here –> The Furby Apps: Problems & Solutions

Download the FREE Furby app

Although Furby will work just fine without the app, using it only enhances the entire experience. The app comes with three primary functions.

The first, and most used by my daughter, is Pantry and Deli mode. As the names suggest, these include food items that can be virtually fed to the Furby. To do so, the child selects from a visual gallery of food items, and then feeds it to Furby through a swipe of the finger.  Sometimes the results are quite interesting.

For example, feed Furby some moldy cheese and you should expect something much more disgusting thrown back your way. Give him a sandwich with onion and cheese and Furby’s eyes will light up as he shakes with enjoyment.

The Furby app also comes with two additional tools, a Furbish to English dictionary, and a Furbish to English translator. Using each and your  child will figure out what Furby is saying, and also help the toy learn and speak English.

Both tools, which work quite well, may need some parental assistance, depending on the age of the child. My daughter, for example, had difficulties with some of the words listed, both in English and Furbish.

Nonetheless, the feeding tool alone makes the app a must-have for any Furby owner.

  • PANTRY

    – Choose from over 100 different foods for your Furby to eat! Get to know your Furby better by figuring out what foods it likes and dislikes.

  • DELI

    – Create a special meal for your Furby with over 60 different sandwich-making ingredients.

  • TRANSLATOR

    – Furby said what? Use the translator to translate Furbish in real time. Hold your app device close to Furby’s mouth when it speaks. When the speech bubbles appear, simply tap the Furbish or English phrase to hear it aloud.

  • DICTIONARY

    – Practice Furbish even when Furby is not around with full Furbish-to-English dictionary. (Hint: Useful for writing secret notes to friends.)

Works with iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Note, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola RAZR Maxx, and Google/Asus Nexus 7.

So, when will the app be available for Kindle Fire HD? There are a lot of kids with Kindles out there. We won’t buy a Furby until this happens. Google Play site says it is available, but it is not.

    • admin March 28, 2013 at 12:18 am -

Very good question. I’m presently looking into it and will update this comment once I have more information. Thanks!

I contacted Customer support at Hasbro and asked them if the Furby app would be created to work with the Kindle Fire. Here was their response.

        “Hi Eric,
Thank you for contacting Hasbro regarding the Furby App.
I apologize, there are no current plans to add the Furby App to the Kindle Fire.
        Thank you for your understanding.”

Hello, This is just a question can you talk to the party rockers without a normal furby. And is it better if i have the normal furby when i get the party rockers, because it seems that you have to have a furby with the party rockers.

    • admin April 19, 2013 at 11:48 pm -

Hi Maisie! The Party Rockers will work with other Party Rockers and Regular Furbies, or all by itself. It is a lot of fun watching them all talk to each other but If you don’t have other Furbies or Party Rockers, that’s ok, now you are the one they will talk to. They will still respond to your voice and to music just like the big Furbies. Hope this helps!

  6. leah May 4, 2013 at 2:15 am -

hi there I own a 1998 furby and it does not talk is there a problem also would the app work on 1998 fubys

    • admin May 4, 2013 at 2:57 am -

Hi there! The older Furbies weren’t designed to work with the app (Were Tablets and smart phones even around back then? hehe) If your older model Furby has lost his voice, theres not much you can do unfortunately other than fresh batteries and resetting.

      • leah May 4, 2013 at 11:30 pm -

oh plus he’s doing all his movements right but sometimes I hear him doing some sort of buzzing also thanks for the advice

  12. shannon September 22, 2013 at 5:51 pm -

We just bought a Furby boom. Installed the Furby boom app on the iPad. However, the Furby will not scan. Keeps saying “where is Furby. Make sure Furby is near enough.

I tried installing the app on my phone (Samsung galaxy S2)… The furby scanned fine

We REALLY need this to work on the iPad ghostbusters? Suggestions?

    • shannon September 22, 2013 at 5:52 pm -

Not sure where ghostbusters came from..lol

      • admin September 22, 2013 at 6:11 pm -

LOL These things happen, and they are always funny 🙂

    • admin September 22, 2013 at 6:10 pm -

Thats strange, try re-booting your ipad and performing a Furby reset. The app should start working, if not, uninstall the app and re-install it and try again. If it still refuses to connect to your Furby, give the Hasbro hotline a call, they may have some ideas that work. The problem seems to be from the Ipad rather than the Furby (since the app on Android works). Hope this helps!

Who you gonna call? HASBRO! (Ghostbusters can only help if Furby is possessed)

  13. Chlo September 22, 2013 at 9:09 pm -

Will the furby boom app be compatible with furby boom on a samsung galaxy tab that is 7.0. Just wondered as website only states 10.1 inch?
    Thanks

    • admin September 24, 2013 at 12:30 am -

I don’t have a Samsung Galaxy tab to try it out on, but I’m guessing the screen size shouldn’t cause the app to not run properly. I think you’re safe giving it a shot! If anyone has tried this out, let us know! 🙂

  14. loz September 23, 2013 at 8:45 am -

I keep trying to scan my party rocker but it just says where’s furby make sure its close enough

    • admin September 24, 2013 at 12:34 am -

If you have trouble getting the Furby app (or the boom app) to connect to a Furby, make sure the room you are in is quiet, no tv, loud people in the background etc. Loud sounds will distract your Furby and cause connection problems with the app. Also point the speaker of your phone at the Furby and place it fairly close to make sure Furby can hear the special “signal” that the app is sending to it. Good luck!

My furby boom works ok with the app it sometimes refuses to open and the toilet screen doesn’t work. The app freezes and has to be reset. I’m using a galxy note 2 can anyone help. .

    • admin September 24, 2013 at 12:44 am -

Hmm I would suggest removing and re-installing the app. The Hasbro site states it should work if you’re using OS 2.3.3 or above.

  16. LuLu September 23, 2013 at 6:21 pm -

My furby app won’t open on my iPhone. I have tried deleting it and re installing it and there are no updates for my phone or the app.

    • admin September 24, 2013 at 12:50 am -

Try rebooting your phone and see if that helps. Sometimes a good ole reboot is all it takes. It couldn’t hurt to reset your Furby too.

  17. LuLu September 24, 2013 at 7:10 pm -

Just found out furby app doesn’t work with the iOS 7 update iPhone has just had to do. Is the app going to be updated so I can work? 🙂

    • admin September 25, 2013 at 2:38 am -

It’s my understanding that they have fixed the iOS 7 upgrade issue with the latest update of the Furby app. Make sure your app is up to date! 🙂

  18. Rebecca September 26, 2013 at 8:53 pm -

Hi. I am just wondering if anyone knows whether the furby boom app works on the Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1? the furby website says it does but the google app page only states 3 android tablets that it works on & the galaxy tab isn’t one of them. bit confused. x

    • admin September 27, 2013 at 1:33 am -

If anyone one out there knows the answer to this question, help us all out! I Use Iphone/Ipad so I don’t know much about Android functionality.

    • Mark September 28, 2013 at 6:53 pm -

      Yes, it works fine.
The Hasbro description on Google Play is a little deceptive. What it really means is that they have only extensively tested on those three devices. In fact the app will work on almost all android devices running Android 2.3 and above.

      • admin September 29, 2013 at 6:06 am -

        Thanks for the Info Mark!

Hi, I have a samsung galaxy S3 mini and i have just bought a furby boom and i downloaded the app. Thing is my app freezes on the bit where there is a circle with a picture of my furby in, can anyone help me please?

  20. Mark September 28, 2013 at 3:57 am -

Hi. I’m having trouble getting the app to connect my furby. It keeps telling me to try again.
This is on an Acer Iconia Tablet.
The problem seems to be that the volume is too quiet. I can’t find any option in the app to increase the volume and the tab volume is up full. In the app settings there is a boost option but this is already up full.
When installing the app and starting it for the first time there is an initial screen with a volume slider and a start slider. I did not increase the volume on the start slider and I can’t find any way to get this initial screen back. Even removing and reinstalling the app I cannot get this screen back. The only way I can get that screen back to to do a full factory reset on the device. I am not very keen to do this on my daughters tablet but testing on my phone – sing this volume slider makes a big difference.
How can I get back to this screen that lets me increase the app volume? Surely there must be a way?

    Hi,
My daughter wants a furby boom for Xmas. I have an iPhone 4 does it work ok with this or does it need to be the newest iPhone?

    • admin October 4, 2013 at 1:50 am -

The app says its “optimized” for Iphone 5, but my 4S runs it just fine. Im pretty certain that as long as you have the iOS updated it should work just fine.

  22. michelle October 5, 2013 at 8:09 am -

Anyone else having Furby Boom App problems? I’m starting to think there’s an issue that may need to be taken care of by Hasbro.

  27. Benedikt October 16, 2013 at 12:55 pm -

Hi, my daughter got yesterday as birthday gift FURBY so we together instaled the FURBY app to her tablet ASUS MeMO Pad ME301T 16GB. But the application doesn’t wotk. The last option was to chose the language and that was the last step we were able to do, from this moment we see only the orange page with logo of Furby atd that is all. So I tryied to reinstall this app, but the result is still the same. Any suggestions? THANX.

  32. Donna October 24, 2013 at 5:23 pm -

I contacted Hasbro today very upset that I bought a $65 toy for my daughter that she can only half use due to the app not working on her samsung galaxy tab 3. They did not due much other then say to keep checking back for updates to the app as they will continue to add more devices. If enough of us complain they may update the app sooner knowing there is a many disappointed kids out there. And for my trouble they are sending my daughter a free toy. So any of you out there having trouble please contact Hasbro and they will help you trouble shoot and complain enough and get them to send you something for your troubles.
