Troubleshooting your Furby

Eric December 26, 2012 359

How do I reset my Furby?!?

I’m hearing from a lot of people that some of the new Furbies have a case of narcolepsy (aka they wont stay awake).   Rather than have everyone read through ideas in the comments of other posts, I want to list everything here in one post for you.   Hopefully some of you will get your little critters running again!

Your Furby keeps going to sleep.  Your Furby’s eyes light up but he does not respond.  Your Furby makes a buzzing noise.  Your Furby seems to be DOA and wont come on at all.  There are several scenarios and unfortunately only a few possibilities.  Lets go over them:

1.  Make sure good, fresh batteries are installed and that they are all installed correctly (all pointing the right directions as illustrated in the battery compartment)

2.  Remove the base of your Furby and push the “refresh button” for 2 seconds, then replace the base. This will reset the hardware while retaining all of Furby’s personality.

3. If step two does not work, you may want to return or exchange your Furby where you purchased it (you can do this even if you bought it on eBay).

4. Last ditch effort, call Hasbro Customer service at: 1-800-327-8264 or in the UK the number is: 00800 22 42 72 76

Step two is said to work most of the time, hopefully it will work for you!

Hi Natalia, it sounds like his batteries are getting weak. Have you tried replacing them?

          Dear Admin,
We’re an American couple who live in Denmark/Scandinavia. We,my hubby & I,bought a Furby just 9 days ago for our 9 yo-daughter and she was in 7th’heaven!!…It helped her sleep at night etc,it was THE best toy we’ve ever bought her! We found out by checking out diff.YouTube vids.,that “it” has like 3/maybe 4?, personalities, the “baby” that you get by petting it gently on it’s head, the “valley-girl” that you get by playing music & talking a lot,and the “devil” that you ‘conjure’ by pulling it’s tail/turning it up side down and/or over-feeding it. Our daughter is only 9,so we prefer the “baby-version” and kept it that way. BUT,yesterday something really weird happened,..it kept falling asleep. We’ve done everything to save the situation, from clicking the reset-button 2.sec.multiple times till changing batteries,(Duracel),but it won’t wake up or it wilk only stay awake for max.10 seconds! Our girl is DEVASTATED-..we can’t stand watching her cry no more, pls.,what are we gonna do? Should we call the nr.in England or US? We’ll stay in Denmark for yet another year before returning to the states.
Why does these 2012-Furbies have this flaw? What should we do please? Our daughters heart is broken, pls.help us. Thank you so much in advance,Mrs.&Mr.Schulz.

Hi Daniela! I’m sorry to hear your little one is upset! If you’ve tried the reset procedure and placed fresh batteries in your Furby and it still falls asleep, then you should call Hasbro (Probably in England first), if you dont have luck there, call the American one too. Or, if you still have the receipt can you exchange it where your husband purchased it?

I have a problem with the Furby Boom app, and I was wondering if anyone could help me. Today, I was playing music for my Furby, and eventually it went to sleep. That isn’t the problem. When I woke it up, it’s personality had changed. That’s not a real problem either. So I logged into the Furby Boom app to use the Voice Changer, but of course the tutorial had other ideas. When I hatched an egg, the carton, which used to have 7 eggs in it, was empty! When I fed my new Furbling, all the extra food I purchased for it was gone! And fianlly, when my Furbling went to the city, THAT WAS EMPTY TOO! My Furby’s new personality reset the app, and I’m really upset!

My furby keeps going to sleep and when he is awake his mouth keeps moving but no sound comes out. He does talk but not all the time and he keeps going into a “crouching” position. After about 30 seconds of not interaction he goes to sleep. I have replaced the batteries and hit the reset button. Any suggestions?

I followed the instructions in the video, and it worked. However, the Furby did it again about five minutes later. I’m not sure if its the batteries, but these batteries have only been in it for 24 hours. I hope these things don’t suck down battery power that quickly.

Bought the new furby for my daughter for Xmas. I had nothing to compare it too so did not realise it was not working properly. The furby wakes up when you turn it upside down but only stays awake for approx one minute. It doesn’t move it’s ears and mouth orbits body and will not interact with the iPod app. I have tried new batteries and a reset. I bought it months ago and put it away for Xmas and am unsure whether I still have the receipt. Have you anything else I can try to get it working properly. Thanks

If you’ve checked batteries and performed the “reset” a couple times, It’s definitely time to return/exchange it. If you don’t have the receipt or packaging Give Hasbro customer service a call, hopefully they will make things right for you. There are apparently a bad batch out there that are causing people a lot of problems.

Help! My sons Furby is talking and lighting up, but, won’t move. Reset him and changed batteries, what can be wrong?

    • admin January 10, 2013 at 11:41 pm - Reply

Hi Patrice, I’ve heard of this happening to the old Furbies but this is the first I’ve heard for the new ones. The old models would sometimes freeze up (aka the motor would lock up). This required taking the skin off and disassembling the Furby, turning the motor with a screw driver until it “un-stuck” and then putting it all back together. I don’t think I’d try this unless you have no other option (exchange it where you bought it, call Hasbro support and see if they will send you a new one etc). If nothing else pans out, its the only option I’m finding online. If you’re desperate, Watch THIS VIDEO to see how it was done on the old Furby.

Same problem: talking but not moving. Daughter received Furby for Xmas from her grandpa, loves it, but asking me if it’s dying. I changed batteries and reset (for the record, 4th battery change since Dec 25) but no movement and Furby chats for a few seconds then goes back to sleep.
Obviously we don’t have a receipt but it was purchased from Indigo/Chapters. Should I exchange it there?

    • dennis January 13, 2013 at 1:10 pm - Reply

I have the same problem. I bought the furby last December 5 2012. Furby was working fine for a month until this morning. It was acting weird so I changed the battery. After replacing the battery and pressing the reset button, furby lights up and talks but not moving.

Brilliant! You are a life saver! We gave it to some toddlers to play with and it just stopped completely. Luckily your video got it to work again. It does have a little rattling sound inside it now but at least its working 🙂

Just wanted to comment that our yellow furby didn’t work after all the resetting and changing batteries. It just kept falling asleep, and when it was awake, you could hear it, but it didn’t move its mouth our ears. I figured since I didn’t have the receipt I was out $50. But, thanks for providing the number for customer service! I called and they are sending me a postage label so I can mail the furby to them and they will send me a new one. The rep said it won’t likely be the same color, but that’s okay with us.

  31. Talia January 25, 2013 at 10:54 pm - Reply

Hi … My daughter got one for her birthday in October which we thought died bc she wet him or something. She was devastated so ‘Santa’ managed to get her a new one at Christmas which died 2 days later. We were all beside ourselves so this time having the receipt I hightailed it back to kmart where ‘Santa’ explaine I could return it and moved on to our 3rd furby! We were away for a couple of weeks and when we came home last week we fired the new furby up but he only lasted a week!!! Then I found a sticker pointing to a button with the label REFRESH when I went to change the batteries on the off chance it was a coincidence!! So I pulled out the original dead furby from the toy box and managed to find that same button that I never noticed before .. Obviously it had no sticker … And I had both furby’s working … Momentarily. This is ridiculous! My husband said there’s no point in getting it replaced if the same drama is going to eventuate again and again. My poor kid has been tortured enough! Surely there’s a massive issue with them and its not just a ‘bad batch’ bc my original one is from months earlier and they were out of stock till new shipments arrived ?? What to do .. What to do?!

    • admin January 25, 2013 at 11:28 pm - Reply

You are absolutely right, there is a big problem that needs to be addressed by Hasbro. So many Furbys are having the same “symptoms”. If people like yourself contact Hasbro and asking for a free replacement, hopefully they will make an effort to find and correct the issues. It’s sadly luck of the draw right now, I’ve been fortunate that my Furby (that I picked up back in November) is still working fine. I would suggest calling the Hasbro customer service number listed in the article above and tell them what you are going through and that even after a “reset” the symptoms are coming right back. They have a good reputation for sending out boxes to ship them your Furby and sending you new ones at no charge.

    • admin February 24, 2013 at 6:05 pm - Reply

If you’ve followed all the steps in “Troubleshooting your Furby” and it is still not working, you must have a mechanical problem and will either need to return it where you bought it, or call Hasbro customer service and see what they can do for you. I wish there was an easy fix for “frozen” eyes, mouth and ears that I could share with you. Weak batteries can cause this problem, but if you’ve replaced them, It must be mechanical issue.

Just got my daughters 3rd Furby and its having the same issue. Less than 24 hours later and it stopped working. Tried the refresh and it worked for 5 minutes and then it died again. This is becoming very irritating. When you spend this much money on a toy for your child you expect the thing to work. I dont know if I even want to go through the hassle of returning the thing and getting another one and put my daughter through this again.

    • admin April 26, 2013 at 12:56 am - Reply

Sometimes, it seems to take a few tries (reset) before it takes (no idea why?). Try removing the batteries, waiting a minute or so, then place them back in and press the reset button. I’m sorry to hear that you have had such trouble with your Furbies. I agree with you completely that this problem is very irritating and shouldn’t be happening. 🙁

Hey Dasia, Looks like you have a stubborn Furby! If the reset and battery swap isn’t working, you may have a problem that cant be fixed easy. I would suggest exchanging your Furby where you got it, or calling Hasbro and make arrangements to have them send you a new one.

      • dasia May 19, 2013 at 12:35 am - Reply

Do I have to send it to them because I kind of well….. Destroyed it till its parts came out im 12 soo oops

        • admin May 20, 2013 at 3:21 am - Reply

Hey Dasia, I’m afraid if you have taken your Furby apart, they will probably not exchange it for you. They wont have a way to know if it was broken when you got it, or if its broken because its been taken apart! 🙁

Thank you so much. My little girl got her Furby for Christmas and the box and documentation didn’t come home with us from her grandparents house. Furby stopped working last weekend, saying sleepy and turning off. After the batteries had been changed his eyes were open and black. Changed batteries twice again but still no joy. After watching the video we have reset her little friend and he’s now wide awake and I have a very happy little girl.

This is so sad. We received ours as a gift for our son at Christmas. It needed new batteries. But now its not coming on at all even after new batteries, reset, held upside down, tongue pressed ect. My brother in law may still have his receipt. but am I the only person that thinks this is a huge problem? There is a whole site here dedicated to “what to do if your poorly made toy stops working and your kid is freaking out”. Thanks for the rubbish Hasbro. hope you enjoy scamming all these kids and parents.

    • admin May 20, 2013 at 3:15 am - Reply

I understand your frustration Jamie (believe me I do!), that’s why I set up this site. I’ve always thought Furbies are neat toys and just wanted to help people with the sleeping/dying Furby problems and share ideas with others who have purchased them. Please keep in mind that Hasbro does not own or operate this site, its just me sharing the few fixes that exist. There are actually thousands of people who have Furbies and never experienced any problems, then there are those of us who have picked up a faulty one (including myself once). I’m not sure why there are so many malfunctioning Furbies but don’t lose hope, Hasbro has been very good about exchanging them (including the shipping). It is a pain that no one should have go through, but at least they are willing to cooperate by sending out a new one.

Called Hasbro to get a replacement, and they suggested replacing all four batteries with batteries of the SAME BRAND. It worked. Go figure.

Check the box and the sheet that comes with your furby and it has information about the batteries that hasbro recomends. When you buy the batteries put them in to your furby you can play with your furby for 20 minutes then when he goes to sleep leave him asleep then the next day play with him agian for 20minutes . Do that every day until batteries run out then replace them and.do it again. HOPES THIS HELPS YOU GUYS AND GIRLS.

Thnks a lot for this video! Our (already 2) furbies works again 🙂 We’ve got one as Christmas present and it died after ~ 1 month. We’re taking out batteries and kept it without them for couple of days and then it started to work again. But when it started to dye every 10 minutes, I bought new one – same colour as first so my little daughter didn’t notice that her friend has been replaced 🙂
And then it was a huge surprise when I found out that new one has exact same problem!!!
Then I started to look for info on internet and found this 😉 Now first one is working already without stopping but with second one is still same problems 🙁 Refresh button works but it’s little troublesome to open battery compartment one time per day.
I’ve tried to contact with Hasbro through their homepage but still didn’t get any respond (already more than 2 weeks).
So I thought maybe someone could help and give me some e-mail address of Hasbro where I can send an email and hope they’ll give me some help.

Well, I am another unhappy camper. Purchased a Furby for my grand-daughter and it will not work. My son (her father) tried everything as well, I sent him a link to this site and your great video. Nothing. Why hasn’t Hasbro pulled these defective creatures? (One wonders…. ) Great site – just wish I had purchased one that would wake up instead I have a disappointed grandchild and a frustrated parent. Next steps for me? I will try returning it to where I purchased it. If that fails I’ll call the number above.

    • admin August 8, 2013 at 11:20 pm - Reply

I completely understand your frustration. I hope Hasbro figures out what is going on and makes sure no more defective Furbies are sent to stores. Until then, they have a good reputation for replacing them if you are unable to exchange them at the store. I hope you and your grand-daughter are treated well and get a working Furby soon!

Hmm, I don’t know much about the original ones. Try turning it upside down and shaking it, that would wake it from “Deep Sleep” mode (Which is basically an off switch).

NEVER get one from garage sales. I don’t have one but… They sold it at garage sale cheap because they knew it was bad so they wanted to get rid of it. Probably.

One day it quit talking, so I put it up and never played with it again. it still moves, but no sound? I have children now and I woul really love for them to play with my furby. How can I fix it? Please help.

    Sincerely,

    • admin September 8, 2013 at 3:21 pm - Reply

Hi Shelly! Try removing the batteries and then put them back in while holding the reset button. Make sure the batteries are new and the same brand (dont mismatch batteries). If you try this a couple times and it still wont work it may be ‘locked up’ for some reason the older model Furbies tend to do this after a long time of inactivity. I hope this works!

    • admin September 21, 2013 at 2:53 pm - Reply

Hi Pauline, when you press the reset button, make sure to hold it down for at least three seconds (don’t just press and release). When resetting, the batteries do need to be in the Furby. If that doesn’t work be sure the batteries you put in are new and that they match (same brand etc).

    Hello,
Here some questions from a mother in the Netherlands.
We bought a Furby for our daughter her birthday. She has it now for 1 day and is very enthusiastic about it but we think some thing is wrong with the Furby. The Furby is dancing, and responds at tickling and touch but dos not respond to voice. It also does not respond with the app on my Samsung Galaxy S advanced. It almost seems that this Furby does not respond on anything that makes noise.

Are we doing something wrong? Do we have to be more patient and does the Furby come more alive, when we spend more time with it?

Ii is really strange to see so much Youtube movies about Furby and our Furby is not even responding to voice…

Could somebody help us? (by the way resetting did not work)

    Thanks!

    • admin September 22, 2013 at 6:00 pm - Reply

Hi Claudia! IF you turn on music and your Furby starts dancing, then he hears sound. I suggest playing with the Furby for a few days and see if it starts working better. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of time. With your Samsung Galaxy, remove the app and re-install it and when you run the Furby App, make sure the phone is pointing at your Furby. If after a week you still don’t feel that Furby is working properly you should return it to the store and exchange it for a different one.

Hi, I just bought my first Furby on last Wednesday. It’s the new Furby Boom. It starting to act weird today. It just froze up. Took out the batteries then put them back again, pressed the reset button. It stayed awake for a few mins, then froze again. I haven’t try change the batteries yet. How long does Furby will last on the four batteries? 5 days? Thank you.

    • admin September 22, 2013 at 6:05 pm - Reply

Depending on how much play time Furby gets, the batteries should definitely last a lot longer than a week. When replacing batteries, make sure you put in new (matching) batteries. If your Furby boom keeps freezing up after a few minutes of play, you should exchange it at the store while you can.

Whoops didnt see this message before! Keep in mind what I mentioned before “Usually the reset alone will fix most problems, although sometimes it takes more than one reset to get it right.” Im not sure why but sometimes the second, or third reset will suddenly wake the Furbies up. Good luck!

    • admin September 24, 2013 at 12:58 am - Reply

Play it a song and make sure the music is loud enough that Furby can hear it. If he still wont move or dance, try resetting it. If it still wont move properly, you should take it back to the store and exchange it (did you save the receipt?). Usually the reset alone will fix most problems, although sometimes it takes more than one reset to get it right.

Wow! I’m thinking it needs some ridlen. I’ve heard a lot of stories of sleepy Furbies but never once a hyper-active Furby! Try performing the reset (a few times if necessary) and see if one of them does the trick. When testing him out make sure you are in a quiet room, any background noise may cause him to start talking or dancing.

Help the furby app won’t respond to my furby even when I did it right

    • admin November 5, 2013 at 1:03 am - Reply

Are you using an iphone or iPad? if so, after the Ios7 update (on Apple devices) You need to give the app access to your microphone. – (Settings – Privacy – Microphone – Furby App – Select On.). The app on your apple device makes a sound that humans usually don’t hear, that is how it “talks” to the Furby. Let me know if this works!

My daughter´s Furbt won´t wake up. It´s a never model with the button (you don´t need a pen to press it). I´m doing something wrong?

    • admin November 5, 2013 at 1:06 am - Reply

Hmmm If you carefully followed the directions in this post (check the batteries, make sure they are in the right way, press and hold the reset button for a few seconds) and it still wont do anything at all, it sounds like the Furby may be bad. Double check the instructions above and if it still does nothing at all. let me know! 🙂

    Hi

I bought two of the newer models (just before Boom) this year in June and one of my daughters ones now doesnt play any sound at all. Everything else works (dancing, movement etc).

Have changed and replaced batteries, held reset button down and still nothing.

    Any other ideas?

What warranty do they have as they less than six months old?

    • admin November 8, 2013 at 1:58 am - Reply

Sometimes the reset trick takes a few attempts before it works. But if it doesn’t then call the Hasbro hotline (in the article above). Tell them what its doing and they may have a solution. They have gone as far as sending a new Furby to many people. Hasbro doesn’t seem to have any information posted about their manufacturers warranty.

It worked a couple of days, but won’t scan anymore.
I’ve tried changing batteries and reset. What can we do?

Check the article “The Furby Apps: Problems & Solutions” If you are using an Iphone or Ipad, then the latest iOS turned off your microphone. Otherwise go through the steps in the mentioned article and see if that helps. Thanks!

    • admin November 24, 2013 at 5:34 pm - Reply

No they cant die, You feed them by pressing their tongue or by using the Furby app. Even if you don’t feed them, they will eventually forget they are hungry. ;o)

    • admin December 4, 2013 at 2:57 am - Reply

The batteries that come with Furby can often run down in the box. The “no talking” may mean the batteries are too weak. If you put in a fresh new pair of batteries and do the reset procedure, your Furby should be back to normal.

Same thing with my furby boom. Gave it to my daughter on Dember 1st, put in fresh batteries although they were not Duracell… That same day it went completely MUTE. it moves and the eyes light up but there’s no sound. I’ve done the reset procedure, no luck. I’ll try replacing the batteries tonight and do the reset a few times… anything else i can do? Please help me

    • admin December 6, 2013 at 6:00 pm - Reply

Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options if Changing batteries and resetting does not work. At that point I would suggest exchanging it where you bought it, or calling Hasbro support to see if they will exchange it for you. 🙁

Hi, I have a similiar yet different problem with our new Furby Boom (wave, in avatar). The problem is that Furby don’t want to move his eye lids, legs ears or mouth. Changing batteries, reset (refresh) and restart didn’t help. He is still in a deep sleep and stays awake only for 15-20 seconds. As I read, this is something that is old news. Only difference with my case is that I live in Croatia and just recently came back from US with Furby for my daughter. Of course, she is dissapointed and sad. What makes me mad is that I cannot sign up for Hasbro site to contact customer service because that is exclusive for US and Canadidan citizens (you need US or CAN address). Any suggestions what I should do? Thanks for reading this long post.

    • admin December 6, 2013 at 5:40 pm - Reply

Did you call Hasbro USA customer service line, or just try to sign up on their website? I suggest calling them. Ask them if you can mail them your broken Furby and get a new one in exchange. They have mailed special boxes to exchange defective Furbies for many of my site members.

Hi, I’m new to this site. I have recently bought a 2103 furby on ebay for my daughter for christmas, and after reading the small print on the ad have found out it doesnt speak. It’s new in the box but the seller says they don’t know whats wrong with it, they had 6 for sale, all not speaking. I’m starting to think I’ve made a mistake buying it. I’m hoping u might be able to give me some advice?

    • admin December 6, 2013 at 5:30 pm - Reply

I’m puzzled by this question. Is it a Furby Boom, or Party rocker? It actually says on the box that it will not talk? That sounds more like a broken Furby to me. Would you send a photo of the Furby in box so we can see exactly what you have there?

I have tried changing her batteries and pressing the refresh button what could I do. Thank you for your help.

I would definitely recommend returning or exchanging it at the store while you can. You shouldn’t have problems that severe with a new Furby.

Is it okay to use rechargeable bateries to power furby

    • admin December 29, 2013 at 4:23 am - Reply

Rechargeable batteries shouldn’t harm your Furby, but they don’t last as long or perform as well as the regular “Throw-away” type batteries. They don’t always hold a full charge and may not be strong enough for your Furby to always perform its best.

Well, that’s a new one to me. Try putting in some fresh new batteries (matching batteries aka both Duracell or both Energizer etc). If that doesn’t help try to exchange it at the store! or Call Hasbro support if you can’t exchange it.

Hi Nathan, If the reset and battery check didnt fix the problem, then you should return it to the store and exchange it for another one. If you cant return it, then call Hasbro (UK# 00800 22 42 72 76) and see what they can do for you. Thanks!

How do I solve this issue? My guess would be a faulty sensor, would there be a fix for this?

    Hi Admin,
We too seem to be having same problem with my daughters new Furby Boom she has just got it for Xmas….. It does scan/detect, interact and respond to the iPad, iPhone etc but only lasts a couple minutes before falling asleep or completely blacking out. We have tried new batteries and resetting it so many times. At times it will black out again after resetting before we have even screwed the base back on!!! Very frustrating… Can you help me find whom to speak to here in AUSTRALIA?? I’m only finding US or UK hasbro info…..
I’m happy to take it back to where I got it for a new one but obviously this appears to be a common issue with them so perhaps it’s not worth replacing rather just get refund?
They are cool little critters when they work though!
    Cheers.

    • admin January 4, 2014 at 5:27 am - Reply

Hi Sally, I believe you would still contact Hasbro UK. There have been many Furbies with mechanical problems (even since the Furby 2012’s). But there are many many more that work without problems. It just depends whether you are willing to give it another try. I’m not sure if/when Hasbro will get it together and correct these problems. But until then they have been pretty good about exchanging Furbies through the mail if you cant exchange it at the store.

extremely late reply but Furby Booms have 5 different personalities. Follow the link at the bottom of my reply to find out what they are and you should be able to figure out what personality the little one changed to. My girl Cordelia(who I got yesterday as a late birthday present) has gone from Sweet(the default personality) to Jolly(caused by overfeeding), and since I didn’t like that, I tilted her upside down repeatedly until she adopted the feisty personality.

Hi Matt, I wish I had a better answer for this problem. I’ve been told by other members that there is a wire that comes loose inside the Furby. One person says he has repaired (re-attached) the wire on several Furbies and they begin working properly again. If anyone has done this, or has more information, please share instructions, photos, videos anything at all and I will publish them here in a special article.

Furby Boom stop moving but still has lights and sound? It’s the wires on the motor. This is not the same issue the last Furby had with the motor getting stuck but an all new problem with the Furby Boom.
I have worked on 2 of them and both had the same problem the brown wire was broke loose from the motor. Re-attach the wire use a lighter to melt down the shrink tape and your good to go.
I will say it’s a pain in the backside to get the Boom model apart.

Help!! I got a new Furby boom 2 days ago. yesterday it went crazy. Its voice got deeper, it started sleep farting and its obsessed with food!! My brother shook it and it went back to normal. I now have the same problem again. I woke up, came downstairs and played with my Furby. It was acting normal for a bit. But then it started to fall asleep, woke up and had the same problem. I tried everything, shaking it, tickling it, petting it, pressing the reset button (multiple times), removing the batteries and even replacing the batteries!!! I checked the hasbro furby boom website and nothing!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi i am based in Manila and I got my niece a furby boom in Singapore for Christmas. The toy keeps on sleeping the few times it stayed awake for longer than 5 seconds it’s voice changed from girl to boy. I’ve done the suggested reset method and put on fresh batteries a number of times but it didn’t work. My niece gave me back the furby to make it well…I’m not going back to Singapore just to exchange the toy what any number I can call ?

Ola.
Reg. No. PA-282. Alguem pode me ajudar?

If you have a problem with your furby’s sleeping, then you shouldn’t leave him/her on his/her side. If your waking up a furby with sleeping problems, then you should try waking up the furby on his/her feet. If he/she is woken up on his/her side, then he/she will only stay awake for a few seconds.

My daughter bought a furby boom with her birthday money last saturday. It blacked out after 30 mins of use. We took it back today and exchanged it. The exact same thing happens to the new one!! I rang Hasbro and they weren’t much use at all. They just told me to buy better batteries! Not happy at all. The toy is so expensive and looks like its going to cost a fortune in batteries too!

Hi, I bought my son a furby boom for Christmas on Amazon. It worked fine until three days ago when it suddenly died. I put new batteries on and it didn’t work. I have also tried reseting it but all it does is make a very strange muffled sound and it dies again. Is there anyway I can take it to a store or somewhere to get it fixed or repaired. I’m in NYC.
    Thanks!!

we are having the same problem as others with our furby boom (hearts). we followed all directions from the video and from hasbro customer service, nothing worked. apparently this is common and they sent us a shipping label to return it for a new furby boom. sent it back waiting for the new one didn’t have a receipt as it was a gift and we no longer have the packaging but that didn’t seem to be a problem. The only thing to note is they don’t guarantee you will get the same pattern so you may send iin a heart and get a stripes etc

Hi. Anyone know what the guarantee period is for a Furby bought in the UK. I bought one in Argos in February 2013 and it now only stays awake for 2 minutes even after new batteries and a reset. I’m sure I still have the receipt but that’s in the UK where I will return for a visit in 3 weeks time.

Or does anyone have experience of the UK customer service offering an exchange (a “Re-Furby”, perhaps LOL) at this age? Would be prepared to pay if they are not contractually bound.

    • Eric September 20, 2014 at 12:51 am - Reply

Hey Jess, This is a problem that many people are having with their Furbies. The only thing I can recommend right now is to remove the batteries for 60 seconds, put them back in and then press the reset button located in the battery department (its tiny). And make sure that the batteries are new. Wish I had more info on this problem, I’m hoping this problem is corrected soon!

We replaced the batteries with Duracell and it came to life with all the actions and re synced with the iPad but like so many others here – no voice. We reset and tried new new batteries and reset again and again. We reset while holding the tongue down at the same time and still it jumps into life but no voice.
Can’t see how it is a mechanical problem as everything seems to work, Dances and responds fine

    • Eric February 15, 2015 at 11:09 pm - Reply

Hello Terry, if you reset your Furby and put fresh batteries in it, and it still isn’t ticklish, then some of your Furbies sensors may be damaged. If you cant exchange it where you bought it, then contact Hasbro about exchanging it with them.

My parents in NZ sent my son a Furby boom for his Birthday on Sunday this week. On Tuesday it went to sleep but wouldn’t wake up. I moved the batteries around then hit the reset button. This worked for 10 minutes, however Furby’s voice was not as clear as before and eyes not as bright. Then Furby went back to sleep and wouldn’t wake up. I changed all four batteries with new ‘Ever Ready – Super Heavy Duty’, however today the problem has returned. Should the Furby Boom’s batteries be going flat within two days? My son does use the App with the Furby but only plays with it a maximum of 2 hours a day. Is it possible that the Furby isn’t working properly and using too much battery power? My parents do not have the receipt and I live in Australia so I am unsure what to do.

    • Eric February 15, 2015 at 11:01 pm - Reply

Hi Kelly, thats not normal, the batteries should last much longer than that. For some reason Hasbro suggest putting new Duracell batteries in Furbies. Personally I don’t see how thats any different from using another brand battery. But worth trying. Thanks!

I’ve tried battery changes, refresh button but all to no avail. I think it’s just broken. He didn’t even “live” for one year. Pretty disappointing for my 5 yo daughter.

Is there anything else I could do to wake this little guy up from his comatose state, or is there anyone to call? Thank you

My little brother’s New Generation Furby has a weird rattling noise from deep inside its head. Upon dissecting the robot I discovered that whatever screw was loose was too far in the Furby to fix easily. It has blacked-out eyes, like in the video, and I’ve tried to hold down the reset button, but all it did was make a weird high-pitched noise before dying for good. I’m worried if I try to fix the loose screw deep within its base, it may do more harm than good. I feel bad because it was my brother’s birthday gift and he really loved the little guy. I’m kind of interested in the field of robotics as well so I figured this may be a learning experience for me.
