The Furby Apps: Problems & Solutions

Eric October 27, 2013 321

I’ve become aware from the comments in other posts that a lot of people are having issues with the Furby apps (Both Furby 2012 and Furby Boom).  In this post I’m going to lay out all of the known information on the apps and what devices they are compatible with.  If I’ve missed something or you have any questions make sure to comment below! 🙂

Note: Keep in mind that the 2012 Furby app is not compatible with the FurbyBoom toys just as the FurbyBoom app is not compatible with the 2012 Furby toys.

What Apple devices does the 2012 Furby App work on?

Additional Info:  While the app does work with the Kindle Fire HD, it is not compatible with the Kindle Fire (Two separate devices) because of hardware limitations.  There has been a misconception that Hasbro just refuses to create a Kindle Fire version of the app, this is not true.  The Kindle Fire simply isn’t a powerful enough device to run the app.

Thanks for your above info. We have another problem, however. We updated the furby boom app today to version 1.4, along with other apps on a Samsung galaxy tab2 and now the furby boom app won’t load. It freezes in the purple start screen. Any ideas? We are hoping to avoid deleting and reinstalling the app as dont want to loose progress. Hope you can help.

Try completely shutting down the app, also reset your device. Once it reboots, and you reload the app, it may start working properly.

Thanks for the info. If you change iPads, will Furby boom change as well because of the move?

    • admin November 8, 2013 at 1:35 am - Reply

Nope, changing devices won’t affect your Furby’s personality. Using the app with your Furby for a while can change its personality over time though.

Furbies don’t have hands, so they aren’t very good wood workers. ;o) The App should work fine with Samsung Galaxy Tab 3!

Hi Can you please confirm if the app does indeed work with Samsung TAB 3 – I am about to purchase one to go along with Furby boom for my daughters Christmas.

      Thanks,

The FurbyBoom App is confirmed to work with Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Although it doesn’t specifically say “Tab 3”. I’m betting it will work fine. To all visitors: Has anyone tried the Tab 3 yet?

        • Crazy Dad February 15, 2014 at 6:17 pm - Reply

I have tried the Boom app with the Galaxy Tab 3 7 inch and there are problems. We had problems with the initial communication and there are a lot of problems starting the app. When the title starts to spin it tends to crash. I normally have to restart the tablet and wait for it to complete loading before running it. There are always problems running the app if YouTube was used prior to running Furby Boom.

Try all of the steps above and make sure the new batteries match (not two different brands). It may take a few tries sometimes, but it should work.

I am having a similar problem getting boom android app to work. I can’t believe the nook hd + is not supported especially since it’s as strong as the kindle fire hd spec wise and not as locked down a device. I feel like I have been defrauded by Hasbro and I hav told them so. I doubt I’ll hear back though.

      • admin December 26, 2013 at 8:19 pm - Reply

Im pretty sure you can connect your Furby to as many devices that you want, they will just keep separate info (like eggs, games etc). One device can have up to 3 Furbies attached at any time. You can delete a Furby from the app too, to make room if you ever need to.

Hi Mark, I don’t believe there is a way to sync up furby data between other furbies. Unless you have a way to backup/restore your tablet.

Laura, Please keep us posted of your progress if any with the Galaxy Tab 3. I just ordered 2 for my daughters along with 2 Furby Booms. Honestly if the app isn’t going to work with the tablets. I’ll return the Furby Booms as the app was the main draw for wanting the new Furby’s. How fun are the Furby Booms vs. Furby in your opinion with out the use of the app?

      • admin December 4, 2013 at 12:07 am - Reply

You shouldn’t have any problems with your Galaxy Tab 3, The software is where compatibility issues arise, as long as your device runs on Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) It is supposed to work fine! 🙂

      • Julie Williams December 27, 2013 at 1:12 am - Reply

I’ve tried 2 Furby Booms on my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 7in. The app loads fine but the Furby’s only scan intermittently. My children are very upset and I’ve advised them that they are not compatible. I’ve also tried to scan the Furby’s with my Asus Transformer Pad. Though the app loads they won’t scan at all. I’m convinced that buying the Furby Booms were a very poor investment since they are obviously incompatible with many tabs out there. Poor form Hasbro.

    • admin December 8, 2013 at 11:43 pm - Reply

Both of those devices should be able to run the App, it seems to be hit or miss sometimes with the Android devices. The only tips Hasbro has to offer are:

      1. Make sure you are using the correct app – Furby Boom.
      2. Make sure Furby is not talking while you are attempting to communicate with your mobile device.
      3. Make sure the volume is set to its maximum on the mobile device.
      4. If you have a case on your device, make sure the speakers are not blocked. Try removing your case and try again.
      5. Place your mobile device 3-5 inches from Furby for best results.
      6. Make sure there is minimal background noise, Furby focuses best in a quiet environment.
      7. Place your Furby on a flat surface, handling it makes it hard to communicate..
      Good Luck!

Hi! I just bought the furby party rockers and I can’t seem to do anything with it. Does the Furby app work with it? I also cannot turn it on after putting the batteries in. I have an IPod 5th gen and was wondering if this device works with the app.

    • admin December 8, 2013 at 11:40 pm - Reply

Hey Alex! Theres no on/off switch, just put in batteries and it should just come to life. Party Rockers mouths don’t move like the larger Furbies so the only way to feed them is using the app. Even if you never feed them, they will be ok. You’ll want to use the FurbyBoom app with Party Rockers. The app will work with the IPod 4th generation and newer, so you shouldn’t have any problems! 🙂 Enjoy your Party Rocker!

My wife just purchase a Furby Boom and was going through collecting and hatching eggs and playing the games but it seems like every time she hatches an egg for the Gold room with the Rollercoaster all of the Furbys end up in the bottom left window and she cannot click on any of them. When she only had 1 she could tap on it and it would show her the Furby but now that she has 3-4 in the same window nothing happens when she taps. – Is there a fix for this?
Has anyone run into this before?

Unfortunately the Boom app is not available in all Countries. Hopefully they will be available in more places soon. I’m researching a way to import the US app to devices in other countries. I will post an article once I get it figured out.

Hi Danubia, Hasbro says the app will work on the “Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD (except model XT926)”. Make sure your Razr is the “Max HD”. If it is, then follow the instructions I posted for Joel and it should work. Thanks!

    Hi,

I received a Furby from a familymember of the Netherlands.
But we live in Spain. Reading from the box it says that it talks Furbies and Dutch.
Is this so? Or if we speak Spanish to it it will start learning Spanish?
Or is there a way to reset/confugur it so it will talk Spanish?
There must be a way to resetthe language and select a new one! Or would Hasbro be the first company tom ake toys for each country???
    Please advice/help

    Kr,

    David

Hi Dan, I’m not sure if the AppStar tablet is compatible, although its not listed as a compatible device with Hasbro (You’re the first to bring this one up!). Does your tablet have a microphone? (it would need one) If there’s no mic, the software that drives a mic could cause issues.

Its probably telling you to go activate your microphone in your iPhone/iPad settings so that it can pair with your Furby.

  58. Kris December 25, 2013 at 4:34 am - Reply

Hi Greer, i am having problems connecting the ipod touch 4th gen to a furby boom. I am sure it is a 4th gen and so should be compatible. I also saw people recomending to go to iphone settings but i think that only applies to ios 7 and later. Up until that version you didnt have to give permission for apps to use the microphone.

Anybody any other tips? I have tried the hasbro check list, the check list on this site but it still doesnt connect.

  59. Kris December 25, 2013 at 4:41 am - Reply

I just realised on the 4th gen ipod touch the microphone is actually next to the camera on the back (not the screen side). You can see a very small hole next to it. I imagine that the problem is the app expects the mic to be at the bottom with the speaker. Ill have another go but try some different angles rather than the one the app tells you to try.

Anybody else had any luck with Ipod touch?

  62. Kris December 25, 2013 at 10:16 am - Reply

I was right – definatley would not recomend using an ipod 4th gen with a furby. You have to hold the phone vertical so the mic on the back picks up the furby sound and so the furby can hear the sound from the ipod speaker… my daughter soon got arm ache and got bored of that..

    Hello!

We purchased the Furby Boom and Angry Birds Telepods for Christmas but didn’t realize that we needed a certain tablet. We’re looking for a tablet.

I see that the Asus Google Nexus 7 tablet is compatible for the Furby Boom and Telepods apps. Is this both the first and second generation Google Nexus 7
tablets? Since the Google Nexus 10 is basically the same as the Nexus 7 (except larger), will the Nexus 10 tablet work?

    Thanks!

Have replaced the batteries, and even swapped with the batteries from the functional Furby.
The one that beeps does kinda work, but seems to go to sleep fairly quickly.
Any ideas folks? Refreshed many times, still no joy.

Hi Allyssa, if you are using a phone that isnt on the “compatible” list with Hasbro, it may only partly function the way its supposed to. You could try shutting down the app (so its not open in the background) then reopen it and try again. This may help!

We can’t get it to go to the home page to chose to play or feed or shower. Is there something we’re doing wrong or something wrong with the app?? Very new to this 🙂

Hi Jaquara, go into the app and delete your Furby’s profile from it, then delete the app itself. Re-install it and start over. It sounds like something has gone wrong. Presuming your device is compatible with the app, this should help.

Is there a spot on the furby that has a high volume receiver that I could aim tablets mic at? Put volume to max on tablet too. I know Im doing something right as it worked on other! You want the Mic end of your device pointed at the lower belly area of the Furby. Try resetting that pesky Furby (and the app too, totally shut it down so its not running in the background, then reload it and try again.

The app is “supposed” to work with the Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 & Galaxy Note 2. It seems only natural that it should work on the Tab3 even though Hasbro doesn’t list it. I think the Tab3 came out after the FurbyBoom app (thats why its not listed). The hardware seems to have everything needed to work with the app. Have you tried deleting and re-installing it?

We also gave a Furby and a Samsung Tab 3 for Christmas. Work OK for a couple of hours, but now hangs — black screen little egg at the bottom. Reset the app and the data as suggested, which got us a little further — to the launch video, but hen hung at the same black screen. This is frustrating. OS level is 4.1.2. Any tips — it was a real fav when it worked.

Hi Mom, I’ve had several users tell me that they are having the same problem with their Tab 3’s. I’m not entirely sure that the Tab 3 is compatible, but I would try the “Force shutdown” of the app (so that its not running in the background). Then restart it and see if it works right. If not, completely delete the app and re-install it and see if it works.

The furby worked for a while and is working for one of my daughters the other one can get hers to scan but then the app gets stuck with a little circle at the top and a picture of her Furby. We have deleted that app and reloaded it a couple of times but the same things keep happening. Any advice?

I have two upset children after getting furby books
For Christmas and thinking they could use them where their new asus memo pad tablets, to find
That they’re not compatible. It doesn’t say anywhere on the box what tablets can be used it only states the
App can be downloaded from the google
Play store. I am not too
Happy either as my children cannot play with them
Properly and the shop won’t take
Them back because they’ve had batteries installed.
Can you tell me if/when they’ll be supported by other tablets. I really wouldn’t recommend
Them at all right now. They’re a lot of money when they can’t be used properly

I have a Motorola RAZR M with Android version 4.1.2 The Furby Boom connects as I can see the picture come up, but the rest of the screen is black, and just stays that way. Could that be because the Motorola RAZR Maxx is supported and not the RAZR M? I have tried stopping and restarting the app. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the app.

    • admin December 29, 2013 at 3:18 am - Reply

Hi Karen, You are exactly right, there is support for the RAZR Maxx HD, but not for the RAZR M. ;(

Hey Ange! The version of Android you are running is good, but the device is not compatible. A lot of times there are devices that can install the app and will will even work (a little) then crashes.

I bought my daughter a furby, tried installing the app only to find out it doesn’t work in the Caribbean. Would this be changing any time soon? There should have been a listing of the countries able to use the app at the various sales outlets. I just bounced up your site trying to find out what to do next.
    Thanks

Hi Dee, You’re right, there should be a list of countries that have support for the Furby apps. To my knowledge, Hasbro has not made any announcements yet about extending the apps to other countries, but were all hoping its soon!

    • admin December 29, 2013 at 3:02 am - Reply

Hi Donna, its possible that some files remain behind when you remove the app. Delete it again and make sure it is not running the the background (force shut down). After its gone, shut down your device , wait about 30-45 seconds at least then turn it back on and try the re-install.

    • admin December 29, 2013 at 2:48 am - Reply

I’m not sure why but the Galaxy 4 isn’t in the list of compatible devices for the Furby App. There have been a lot of issues with many devices being incompatible for use with the app, it’s a super bummer and I truly hope Hasbro develops compatible apps for more devices soon.

    • admin December 29, 2013 at 2:26 am - Reply

Some tablets seem to work with the Furby app, even when they aren’t listed on the Hasbro “Compatible list”. The only way to know for sure is to try it out. Install it on your tablet and see if it installs and runs properly. If you haven’t purchased a Furby yet, take your tablet to a toy store and try to sync with it. Maybe one of our visitors have tried this particular tablet and can tell us if it worked?

Ok so looking through this, I see one other comment about a high pitched sound coming from the tablet. My daughter has the Nabi 2 tablet now running 4.1.1 through their update. I also have a Asus Transformer which both do the same thing with the high pitch sound. I can fix the sound problem by going into the settings when the app first starts up and adjusting the communications setting all the way down, however doing so I can not seem to get the furby to recognize the app now. The Nabi’s microphone is on the bottom as the Asus’s microphone is on the side (well top when rotated) I know these are not on the compatibility list, but is there any word on if there will be an update to allow more devices?? If not anyway to actually contact Hasbro themselves (like this will probably not resolve anything either) Any ideas or suggestions I definitely welcome them as the sound is annoying…. Thanks in advance

We have tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, taking the batteries out of furby, resetting furby… Everything we can think of. When we are attempting to connect we are in a completely quiet room, the devices volume is at the highest setting, I checked to make sure the microphone on the iOS devices is one, we leave furby on a flat surface And have literally tried connecting with our iPhone and iPad on every possible place on the furby, and have tried hundreds of times with the iPad/iPhone between 1-10 inches away and can not get any connection what so ever!!!! My GS3 seems to only work with the Furby if it is turned sideways which makes for playing difficult. Also it seems to just be a black screen on my Nextbook 8, does that mean it is an unsupported device? The personality keeps changing from male to female, a lot, is that normal? I really hope these issues are something that can be fixed so my 5yo won’t be disappointed in her Christmas toy. When did Bluetooth come out? Think maybe that would have worked better?

      * Amazon Kindle Fire HD Gen 1 and 2 (Gen 3 is NOT compatible because it lacks a microphone)
      * Google/Asus Nexus 7
      * Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD (except model XT926)

Emily, as far as we can tell, the data saved on one device for Furby Boom cannot be transferred to another device. You must start collecting all over again. My daughter has a large egg collection on my iPhone4 and has started a second collection on her IPhone 3 now that we downloaded the app there.

Hi. Here’s hoping you can help! My daughter has been busily building up her Furbling city. She had about 35 and…she came to me today to show me that they’d all disappeared. Granted, she has some learning difficulties and cannot read but is there anything she could have pressed to do this? If so, can we get them back? Fingers crossed as she is distraught!
    Thank you.

Hi, my Furby Boom won’t connect to the app. It did before, and I don’t know what to do anymore. It hasn’t connected for maybe… 2 or 3 months now. Any recommendations on what to do? ( I could always try re-scanning and starting over, but I don’t really want to, though… ) Thanks a bunch!

I found a simple solution for the ‘ Furby Boom app not available in your country’ Android problem:
Download ‘Psiphon’ in the Google Play store, install it and open it, choose browser mode and go to Google Play website and search and install Furby Boom app, it may prompt for your phonenumber to verify identity, because it believes you are located in the USA now 😉 Good luck, and oh yes, if you fail to scan the furby in the boom app, try holding the tablet or phone mic close to the furby boom and tickle it to make sound, while scanning..

If anyone needs the app but is not in the US a simple work around is to change your location in iTunes and remove your credit card. Use any US address with zip code and you can now access the US store. Usually you need a US based credit card but as the Furby Boom App is free this doesn’t pose any problems. When you’re done just edit your iTunes details back.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and it connects to both of my furby booms just fine. That is when the program actually loads. I have found placing the furby and the device on a flat surface like a table helps and do not put the device to close to the furby keep it about 2 inches away. In case anyone is wondering I have the peacock pattern and the christmas pattern.

Bought the Furby Boom in England last year, live in Switzerland and app only became available here this month! Was already disappointed about this, now found out it doesn’t work with HP slate 7. App loads and starts fine (Android 4.1.1), just won’t connect when scanning. Have tried everything suggested numerous times. Works fine on my Galaxy S2 but I can’t leave this with my daughter!!
Come on Hasbro, you expect to sell millions of these for the upcoming Christmas so sort out the issue with the Android/iOS supported devices.

Furby Boom won’t scan. Looked up and tried every suggestion. Our Furby Boom is a year old. Right after getting it we got the app on my android tablet. Since then got an IPad, which we used it on too. Hatched lots of eggs, got furblings, last thing it said was something about a golden egg. IPad cracked screen – recently got fixed. Furby was not scanning with cracked/broken screen. So now, all fixed up screen and it still will not scan no matter where I put it, how I hold it up slightly, or whatever. I deleted and reinstalled the app. No help there. Hit reset button on little Furby. Nope. I DO have Furby Boom and it DID work before, just not now. Any ideas? Oh and YES we did make sure microphone was set to on under settings/privacy tab with the Furby App. So – please tell me something new to try? TY in advance!

Hi Charmian, I’ve heard of this happening, but I’ve never had this happen to me before. You may be able to go into the settings in the game and change the “user” back. Or at least change the Furbys name. Check out this video for an example –> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctPHQBtgvbU start at 2:00. Hope this helps!

Hi! Could you tell me if Asus memopad HD 7 is compatible with Furby Boom? We purchased one a week ago but it won’t scan Furby Boom. The app is running fine but we would like to play with Furby. We tried every suggested method to make it work, but it just won’t scan. At Google Play they say they expanded the list of compatible devices. Asus runs the latest version of Android. Is there any chance we could make it scan our Furby? Thanks!

My daughter’s egg carton is full. When I hit the “Tap here for more ways to get eggs,” A message pops up stating “Your egg carton is full!” Underneath it says “Tap here to get an egg from a virtual friend.” When I go to click “Ok”, nothing happens….the music continues but there is no advancement on the screen, like it’s frozen or something? What should happen and is there a way to resolve this? I tried restarting the Galaxy Tablet, with no success. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
