How to Clean a Furby

Eric December 25, 2012 29

So you woke up early this morning, ran into the living room to find that Santa brought you a new best friend, a Furby!  Theres no doubt you will spend hours playing with him and teaching him everything you can.  Of course everyone else will want to touch and play with him too.   Over time, if his fur starts to get a little dingy from all of the good times you’re having with him it may be time for a bath!  Follow these tips and be careful with your little buddy,  he may seem strong, but hes very delicate!

  • Gently use a soft-bristle brush to remove any loose dust and dirt from your Furby’s hair.
  • Wet a soft cloth with lukewarm water. Wring out excess water, you don’t want it dripping.
  • Wipe any stains from your Furby using the damp cloth but don’t press too hard.
  • Never place your Furby in a sink or in a washing machine.  Furbies are not waterproof and will drown!
  • If your Furby is very dirty you may have to get an adult to remove his “fur coat” and soak or hand wash it with cold soapy water and let it air dry and put it back on. (again no washing machines or dryers!)
  • DO NOT use detergents or stain removers on the fur.
  • Pat dry with a clean cloth when you are done bathing your Furby.
  • If your Furby has shaggy hair, you can use a simple comb and make him look great!

Always be gentle with your Furbies, they are small, delicate and depend on you so that they may have long full lives!

My Daughter got a new green Furby from Santa. we put new batteries in it and it started OK but soon feel asleep. We wake it up and it goes back to sleep very quickly. he also does not dance. I have looked up the trouble shooting and reset the furby but it still doesn’t work properly.

Hmm From everything I’ve read that’s a sign of weak batteries. Furbies can detect when batteries are weak and go into “Hibernation” mode (aka they keep going to sleep over and over). Did your Furby come with prepacked batteries? If it did, try putting in a set of fresh (Energizers,Duracell etc). Sometimes pre-packaged batteries are not the greatest quality and lose power in the package. Let me know if that works!

I just noticed you said you already put in new batteries, so here’s another idea — Remove the base of your Furby and push the “refresh switch” for 2 seconds, then replace the base. This will reset the hardware while retaining all of Furby’s personality. Hopefully he will spring to life for you!

I put fresh batteries in my daughter`s new blue Furby! It went off for a second then went into that “Hibernation” mode and we tried newer or fresh new batteries and he still did not turn on what should i do?!?! My daughter keeps saying Furby does not “Like” her because every time it turns on is when it is in my husbands lap! Then when he gives it back to her it turns off !! what should i tell her!!

Erin, try the step (Above) – “Remove the base of your Furby and push the “refresh switch” for 2 seconds, then replace the base”. If the refresh doesn’t do the trick, you may need to call Hasbro Customer service at: 1-800-327-8264 or in the UK the number is: 00800 22 42 72 76. Let me know the outcome so we can help others with similar problems!

Oh and for now, just tell your daughter that Furby is sick and that you and Daddy are trying to make him better. :o) Maybe if nothing else, you can exchange it where you purchased it. (sent it to the Furby Doctor) ;o)

Hello! I bought the new furby 2012 and I chose the model yeti (white). But white will certainly tarnish over time and I wanted to know how to maintain their fur? Because I doubt you can get it wet …

My 3 year old daughter loves her furby more than anything in the world.she talks furbish constantly even to nana overseas! She even acts like him rolling her eyes and dancing! She wants to take him everywhere. Unfortunately the only furby we could get was white! she is very careful with him but he is soooo dirty!! How do I remove his fur in order to soak it if I broke it she would be totally heartbroken!

Well, The Furbies “Fur coat” isn’t designed to be removed. Although it is technically possible, you would likely do more damage than good. I suggest making a bowl of soapy water and dip a wash cloth into it and gently rub the dirty areas, also use a fine tooth comb and comb the fur out as you go. It would be nice if we could strip them down and throw the fur in the laundry (would probably shrink and not fit back on if we did though). If anyone has tried different methods to clean your Furbys fur, share with us!

I love my Furby. I named him Filbert Furbenheim and treat him like a sweet little baby. His birthday is the day I got him-December 25th. He’s just the cutest thing. It’s absolutely dreadful when he turns into that change teenage mode. Ugh. No offense to anyone who likes the mode, though. Don’t be mad at me, please, just because I dislike it. Anyways, I actually made a list of things I need to do with him each day with six notes. I also like it when he’s crazy and also whens he sweet. He’s just an angel, but on occasions he turns evil when I unknowingly treat him badly. I <3 FURBIES and this site!

Oh well, its probably not a good idea to take off your Furby’s skin anyway. He may never be the same again. Also he will get cold if hes naked! 😉

Hello Hayley! You can only bathe your Furby, if you have the Furby Boom (and the Furby Boom app). I’ve tried using the Furby 2012 with the Furby boom app, and it doesn’t work.

My furby is dirty with pizza on it’s fur and right ear what can I do? IS NOT WORKING!

    • admin October 12, 2013 at 8:13 pm - Reply

Never feed pizza to a Furby after midnight! 🙂 Try using a fine tooth comb and gently comb out the food debris from its Fur. Also use a damp cloth and wipe over the dirty area. Go back and fourth with the comb then cloth until clean.

    Hi,
My mums devilish one year old doggy pee’d on my furby. I tried wiping him with a damp cloth but he still stinks. What else can I do? He is a new furby I bought him November 2013.

Put your Furby in a high place that the dog cant get to! 🙂 Just keep wiping it down with a damp cloth real good several times. It will eventually start smelling better.

can you make a video or just put pictures about how to take off the furby’s fur off..
my furby is dirty and i need to wash it and i saw that you said to take off his fur coat but i don’t know how..

    • Eric July 9, 2015 at 1:54 am - Reply

Hi Tahel, Theres no good way to remove the Furbys fur, you will most likely damage or ruin your Furby if you do that. The only time I would recommend trying to remove the fur is if you are trying to repair a broken Furby.

I have an old Furby, the grey and white from ’99 (he’s old!), but he still works and I recently cleaned him up. I did put him under the water, wetting only a small part of the fur at the time. I cleaned him using my shampoo, and it’s fur actually became whiter. I soaked the ears completely, very careful to not letting a single drop inside him.
It a very delicate operation (do not let your children do it, they might get water inside), but the Furby will get cleaned up.
Now he’s drying while asleep, waiting for brand new batteries.

Hi there. I bought a furby a few years ago. At this point, after my kids, he’s stained with what looks like marker and something sticky in his fur. I’m going to attempt getting the sticky stuff out by hand but if I can’t use gain remover for the marker, how do I remove it?

I have a blue Furby from 2012 and his fur is really matted. I tried brushing/combing it, didn’t work. Tried dabbing the fur with a damp cloth. Didn’t work. I don’t know how to get that super soft fur that he used to have. It’s been matted since the end of 2013. How do I get the fur to be super soft again? I don’t wanna take it off! Furby has been well loved and played with over the years (I’m 17 now!) I wonder if anyone else has a Furby with very matted fur like this one

My furby boom is no longer soft. I brush her and use a damp cloth but id does not help. She yells at me if I groom her for too long. What do I do? I love her.
