Get ready for Furby Boom!

Eric August 24, 2013 124

A new and improved Furby is now available, the Furby Boom!
FurbyBoomHasbroThis new hi-tec Furby is more technologically advanced than his former predecessors. It’s the 2013 Furby Boom! Hasbro has a solid history with Furby collectibles and is a pioneer in interactive play, which makes this an ideal toy for any age.

The new Furby Toy, “The Furby Boom”, will feature 6 brand new color patterns and will come with a free Furby Boom App that will be a tool for kids to interact with it better than before. Furby’s ears will have a new design.

When Furby was re-introduced in 2012,  Furby came out still looking like a cross between a hamster and owl and the basic round body structure came out as the older Furby models. Although, the older furbies from 1998 and 2005 look more like animals than these newer furbies. The newer version looks more like a colorful cartoon character, in my opinion.  The newer Furby’s have short hair with wavy patterns, and his Furby ears are latex. Furby also has digital eyes. These digital eyes make the new Furby appear with more expression since you can see his eyes as if you’re watching a cartoon. .

Furby is recommended for kids ages 6 and up. Furby can be cared for with feedings, games, actual furbucks and so much more. Did I mention, Furby can now lay eggs? Yeah, and they’ll be as colorful as the Furby Mommies are. This new Furby will come with hidden features that a kid can unlock by simply playing with it!

You can speak to furby, tickle furby’s fancy, play music together, shake furby, tilt furby and even turn furby upside down. Furby is made to have the appearance of having a mind of its own.

Just as the older models, the Furby Booms personality is a based how its treated.   Furby likes to play with other Furbies, but be forewarned, Furby might respond negatively to another Furby that it doesn’t like!   You can name your Furby and it will remember its name always, it will also remember other Furbys and call them by their names!

The new Furby Boom will be a big Christmas hit this year, so if you plan on picking one up you should do it now before the Christmas rush!

Some New Furby Features

– Furby can be tickled
– Furby can lay eggs
– When Furby is with friends, they sing together
– You can choose to choose a name for Furby out of about 120 name choices
– When you meet a new friend that also owns a Furby Boom, you can collect eachothers eggs

Hey I have been trying to find this out but am having trouble finding any info on the subject.. will a Furby Boom interact with the 2012 version of Furby? My mom has one and loves it to death and would love another so they can play together, and i am planning on getting her one for Christmas this year, and i was thinking of getting her the Furby Boom but I need to know whether or not it will interact with the one she already has. Please help!!!

They sure will! The Furby App and the Furby Boom app are not cross functional but the Furbies themselves will still talk, sing, dance and interact with each other.

Just received 2 furbees as gifts. One is blue eared w/ various shades of blue fur. The other has pink ears w/ various shades of pink. They do speak some intelligable words but mainly some lingo of their own. They talk to each other & interact with us alone. To make them quiet we put them in a quiet room. How can we train them to talk to us; is this possible? We’re an older couple who have never experinced the joy of having “furbee grandchildren”

Welcome to our little Furby community! 🙂 Your “Grand Furbies” speak “Furbish” when they start out and the more you interact with them they will start picking up words in English. Other interactions like tickling and listening to music stimulates their learning too. They hear you talking to them, they just don’t understand the actual words you are speaking. I hope you are enjoying the new additions to your family! 😉

Hi. My furby has been sitting in my kitchen for quite a while now because I didn’t have double AA batteries but now I have and my furby won’t turn on! Its not the batteries because they worked in my other furby boom and plus they’re only new.
    Is my furby dead???

My furby won’t scan the volumes are turned up already.

    • admin November 6, 2013 at 12:24 am - Reply

It’s good that you turned up the volume, but if you’re using an apple device (like an ipad, iphone etc) with Ios7, then you will need to go in and turn on the microphone. To do this go to (Settings – Privacy – Microphone – FurbyBoom App – Select “On”.)

If your not using an Apple device then none of what I just said matters lol. Let me know if this works for you!

Can anyone tell me how to completely restore a furby boom to factory settings. I switched on my daughters (her Xmas present) to check it worked and have accidentally named it and linked it up to my iPad. Need it restored. Any help?

    • admin November 13, 2013 at 3:05 am - Reply

I’m not certain there is a complete factory reset option (anybody correct me if I’m wrong!). Luckily though, It will still link to another device and within the app, the Furby can easily be renamed. 🙂

I just bought Furby Boom for my daughter, we have a Galaxy S3 phone but the app won’t scan my Furby. We have the volume turned up all the way up and have the Furby either on or near the app and the room quiet. What do I do????

    • admin November 13, 2013 at 1:31 am - Reply

Your device is definitely compatible and should be working, try a few basic things like, reboot your Galaxy S3 and/or completely close the app and reopen it. If this doesn’t work go through the checklist again to make sure you didn’t miss anything:

      1. Make sure you are using the correct app – Furby Boom.
      2. Make sure Furby is not talking while you are attempting to communiccate with your mobile device.
      3. Make sure the volume is set to its maximum on the mobile device.
      4. If you have a case on your device, make sure the speakers are not blocked. Try removing your case and try again.
      5. Place your mobile device 3-5 inches from Furby for best results.
      6. Make sure there is minimal background noise, Furby focuses best in a quiet environment.
      7. Place your Furby on a flat surface, handling it makes it hard to communicate..

Also you may try deleting the app and re-installing it. I hope one of these helps!

Hi Corey! Furby can hear the sounds of youro voice but it cant understand your words. The more you talk to it and play with it, the more words it will start using (that are already programmed into it)

This is for people using android devices.
I bought my daughter a furby boom for xmas, I took it out of the box and download the app on my Galaxy Tab, It wouldn’t scan, after an hour of trying everything the instructions suggested, I tried to point the microphone towards the furby instead of the speakers, VOILA!!… scanned right away!!…. hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy your FURBY BOOM.

    • admin November 24, 2013 at 5:04 pm - Reply

Hi Erica! Make sure the batteries are fresh and strong and try the reset procedure outlined in the article “Troubleshooting your Furby” . If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to think about exchanging your Furby at the store or calling Hasbro support to see if they will exchange it for you. Hopefully this will help! Let us know! :o)

    • admin December 15, 2013 at 5:08 pm - Reply

Hi Joel, While Furbies can recognize when a person is talking, they can’t actually tell what words you are using so it may seem a bit random sometimes. For the App, make sure your device(s) are compatible and follow this checklist, hopefully we will get your Furby in sync with the app!

      1. Make sure you are using the correct app – Furby Boom.
      2. Make sure Furby is not talking while you are attempting to communicate with your mobile device.

    Hello admin,
I just got a furby boom and I am trying to scan it on the furby boom app and it won’t scan I’ve tried for hours and nothing. The device im using is an HTC droid DNA. I’ve held the microphone 3-5 inches away from the eyes in a quiet room while he is not talking and he still won’t scan. Is my device compatible? He scans to my boyfriends iPhone no problem but won’t with my phone. If its not compatible where can I find a list of compatible devices?

    • admin December 23, 2013 at 5:47 am - Reply

Out of curiosity, try aiming the mic away from the Furby. Make sure the volume is not muted on your device and that its turned all the way up. Lay your device on the table in front of the Furby (it shouldn’t need to be propped up). The iPhones seem to work so well because they have a mic and a speaker on the same end. I’m not sure if this is the issue here, just mentioning. 🙂
For a list of compatible devices, check out my article “The Furby Apps: Problems & Solutions

Furby Boom app loaded successfully on my daughter’s Asus Transformer Pad (running Android OS 4.0 OEM) however, after hours of doing everything suggested in earlier posts on this page it’s still unable to scan her new Furby Boom. Are they even compatible? Is the fact that the app loaded any guarantee that the Furby will scan? Your advice would be appreciated at this point !!

    • admin December 24, 2013 at 3:30 pm - Reply

Hi Julie, while the app is made for the Android operating system, often its an incompatible device thats causing the problems. The Asus isn’t listed as a “Compatible” device with Hasbro, but the app ‘may’ have limited functionality (as with any “non compatible device”). In your case, if the app will load but wont scan with your Furby then it’s probably the Asus pad lacking something the app needs (does your device have a microphone?). If it does, make sure the volume is turned up all the way and the sound is not muted.

Can the Furby Boom communicate (or be synced to) more than one device? Like both the iPhone and iPad, to be used at different times? Or does it have to stay with one device.

    • admin December 25, 2013 at 3:10 am - Reply

I believe you can synch to as many devices that you want, but each one will be a separate “game” so they would all have different levels/eggs etc.

  24. Snoodles December 25, 2013 at 11:10 am - Reply

Seriously losing patience. Finally managed to get the Furby to scan on my daughters Android tablet, after over an hour of trying. I thought that was it – we were overjoyed! Then my daughter chose a funny new name for her Furby BUT…. it is then supposed to learn its name. And it just doesn’t happen. The Furby reacts and says his name, but then starts giggling and saying ‘me crazy monkey’. We then get a message to say the Furby hasn’t learned its name and we have to try again. So I sat for an hour doing that. Do I really have to spend an hour or two scanning the Furby with her tablet every time she wants to play with it!?

    • admin December 26, 2013 at 8:24 pm - Reply

Hi Leslie, The LG Viper doesn’t seem to be on the compatible list but could still work to some degree. When scanning turn your device around where the mic is facing Furby and try again. I received a private message from one of our members with this helpful tip:

Hi all…we were having trouble with our new Furby not scanning….Everyone please note…the instructions and illustrations say place your device with the SPEAKERS facing the Furby..this is wrong. You need the MICROPHONE facing the Furby. Turned our tab around and it scanned first time!

Hi. We bought our daughter the new furby boom while traveling in the USA. We live in Norway and it seems like the app doesn’t work here. It’s not avalible in the app store. Is that correct? We’ve so far used the other furby-app, and it communicates with the furby. It’s not possible to hatch eggs though.
Also it seems like the furby starts to be a bit aggressive. She talkes to it in norwegian, is that going to be a problem?
Where can we find instructions on how to treat the furby?

    • admin December 26, 2013 at 10:53 pm - Reply

Furbies don’t understand words, they just know when someone is talking (so language doesn’t matter much). Its more how its played with that makes it change personalities. If you are rough with it (shaking it hard turning upside down, pulling tail, over-feeding) it will become unhappy and act out. If you pet it, play music and treat it gently it will have a calm, loving personality. The personalities will change from time to time, but they will change back eventually.

Well, when you talk, your Furby doesn’t know what you are saying (he/she cant understand your words). They do know you are talking to them though and they like it! The more you talk to it, the more it will start to speak English (or your language).

Hi. My daughter just got a Furby Boom. We set it up and named it and it was a girl and working with the app and everything. It’s laid a couple of eggs and it’s been working great. However, today my brother in law tickled it and stuck his finger in its mouth and now somehow the voice has changed and it seems to have become a boy Furby. Now my daughter is upset. Do Furbys have a gender and how can I put it back to having the girl voice?

Hi Admin! My son got a Furby Boom for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! However, he took it with him to see Grandma for a few days, and she just called to tell me he still talks and moves, but his eyes have no animation anymore. We just put in new batteries yesterday. Could this be because he doesn’t have access to the app? What happens if he doesn’t have access to the app for a few days? I’m worried because my son is already so attached to his Furby, I’d hate to have to take it back to the store.

I bought my daughter a Furby Boom and use it with my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014, and it is absolutely superb! Awesomesauce!
We have no problems at all, and lots of fun! And I do not work for anyone related to the manufacture or sale of these things, I just thought there were too many silly questions on the page 🙂
The only thing that confused me was the QR code thing — I couldn’t find one on the box, but having Googled, I realise it’s an egg hunt, and we’re getting into it.
I would be interested to learn how to develop a QR code to make my own eggs, but that’d be a silly question, I think 🙂

My daughter got a furby boom for christmas, so that means it’s only 8 days old. It went to sleep last night and when my daughter woke it this morning it came on fine but there is NO SOUND. I tried everything. I replaced the batteries, I used the refresh button, I left the batteries out for a while than put them back in, and use the refresh button and still NOTHING. I am so frustrated. Anyone have this problem before?? Anyone know how to fix it??

    • admin January 4, 2014 at 5:59 am - Reply

Hi Davena, You’re not alone, this has been happening to a lot of new Furby owners. The only thing left to do is take it back to the store and exchange it for (hopefully) a functional one. If you cant return it to the store for any reason, call Hasbro support and tell them whats going on. They often will mail you a new one.

I have returned my furby 7 times, she also got a new one for Christmas, so now we have two, l am returning 1 tomorrow, because it went blank, and just today the new one went blank, my daughter and l love the furbys and all they can do. But it seams all l can do is get a new one every two to four days or change the batterys. Its not fair, Cant they do a recall and fix the problems. Because they are a great toy.

Hello, do you know a furby boom is working with tablet Acer A500 (android 4.0.3)? We understand there is only one way communications from tablet to furby. Furby boom app can’t scan, but Furby can get food and sing song with old app Furby.

I bought my daughter a furby boom for Xmas. We also got her a Polaroid tablet and downloaded the app from the google play store. I tried so any times to scan the first one in, reinstalled the app etc and finally exchanged for a new furby to try. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING!! I am getting so irritated with this toy that I’m about ready to just return it. On a side note, I bought my step daughter one and hers works perfectly with the table. I also tried scanning it into my youngest daughters tablet, same kind, and no luck!!!!

My daughter and her friend both played with their Furbys together but now my daughter’s Furby is referring to itself by the other Furby’s name and her iPad is not recognising her Furby at all, so she can’t get or hatch any eggs. How do I fix this?! Thanks.

My 2013 Furby boom named Giggles isn’t working; She basically died, like most furbies do all the time, but we CANT turn her back on.
When we try, we can see her eyes, and they move as usual. BUT they don’t glow, and the reset button doesn’t work. For the past week or so she keeps dying, so i’m like what the heck, so I press the reset button then 10 minutes later she’ll die again. And NOW she’s totally out. No matter how many times we press the reset button, it
acts as if it is totally dead. Please help? I’m new here, (literally, this is my first post) we have gone to TONS of sites and it says something about a furby hopital? What is that? Anyway,
I CANT send her back! We spent since Christmas together… I don’t want to throw her away cuz’ she is like $70!!! BTW she is a Zigzag stripes Girl 2013 Furby Boom from Amazon, so i cant send her back,
    What should I do?

Is there any way to tell when the Furby is clean (when you have showered long enough)? I put the Furby in the shower and it seems like I do it for a long time, but when I close the shower the clean indicator on the home page has barely crept up into yellow. Showering is boring for my daughter and it would be nice if there was some kind of indicator WHILE showering to tell if you’re done.

We have a Furby Boom that’s a year and a half old. IPad is a few months old. Had the app on an android tablet previously, and reinstalled for IPad. Also to note – Ipad is cracked and has a broken spot on screen. I have been trying over and over again but can’t get Furby to scan. Not sure if it has anything to do with cracked screen or not. Has scanned before, we have a carton full of eggs, several furby babies (forgot what they’re called! 🙂 ) But can’t get furby (named Bee-Boo) to scan. She works every other way just not with app. Any suggestions? Yes mic is turned on for the app.

    • Rushell July 15, 2014 at 4:42 pm - Reply

Sorry forgot to add- broken spot is at the very top on the white part. The Ipad itself works, just screen is cracked, which we plan to get repaired soon.

I bought a furby boom yesterday but it seems to don’t understand a thing of what I’m saying. I know it listens to me coz it responds, but it only says random stuff. If I say hello, how are you, what’s your name or whatever it will just reply a random phrase, is it normal? Will it ever respond properly to what I’m saying?

    • Eric September 2, 2014 at 2:39 am - Reply

Hi Giselle! Well, the Furby can hear that you are talking and it will talk back but it doesn’t understand your words. Hopefully someday a new Furby will come out that can really understand your words and answer you, that would be great! :o)

My daughter’a Furby is called May-Dah, she has had it since Xmas 2013. However, I’m the last few weeks, when she tries to scan, the app says ‘this furby is not May-Dah’. I have pressed reset, etc but still get the same message. She is very upset – help. The phone is an iphone and is the same one that the original app was installed. I have checked for app updates. Thanks!

Hi Malcolm, try changing the “user” and or the game (there can be more than one game going at once). Check out this video for examples –> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctPHQBtgvbU (Start at about 2:00)

I live in Brazil and some stores sell furbies but the price is like 10 times more expensive than there and as I’m travelling to the US soon I was wondering if is there some software that can make the Furby from the US speak Portuguese because the kid I want to give the Furby to can’t understand English. Thank u

    • Eric September 19, 2014 at 11:34 pm - Reply

      Hi Cristiane!
To the best of my knowledge, Furbies from 2012 to present can only speak English and Japanese. I’ve seen evidence that some of the old model Furbies could speak Portugues (and a few other languages). This is a very common question asked here at Furby Manual, if you know about current Furby models that can speak other languages (other than English) let us know!

    Hello
My son has just bought an Furby Boom with his pocket money. He used to play with mine, that is one of the old ones from several years ago and it used to respond to commands and learnt to reply a little.
He does have the app but we wanted to know whether it can communicate with him without using the app. Will it pick up more English if he just speaks to it? He is getting a little frustrated, as it is not responding to anything he says.

    thanks

    Tania

    • Eric October 1, 2014 at 2:17 am - Reply

Hi Tania, Furby doesn’t actually understand the words that are spoken to it, but it is programmed to start using more English, the more it is played with. When your son talks to it, it should hear the sound of his voice and respond with Furbish and a little English mixed in some times. Eventually it will use mostly all English.
